Rack and Pinion
Flaming River can't supply the rack and pinion listed in the plans for about 6 months. Any Indycycle builders experiencing the same, and have you found an alternative rack?
Been looking at Stiletto rack and pinion but not sure about the ratio needed.

Re: Rack and Pinion
Sorry about the bad source. The optimum ratio would be a minimum of 1.5 turns lock-to-lock, with 2 to 3 being the best for higher speed handling and lower speed ease of turning.
I will see what I can do about finding another source. Have you tried JEG's?

Re: Rack and Pinion
Okay, here are some options you can purchase from:
McKinney Corp.
Part # M-4240 is a Rack & Pinion Steering Box, Stiletto. One turn equals 2 5/8" rack movement; lock-to-lock moves rack 4 13/16". Weighs less than 2 1/2 pounds with 3/8" rod ends.
Mark Williams Enterprises
Part # 30100
Mark Williams Rack & Pinion Steering Box w/15" Rack
15” rack with 6” of travel. Available with steel or aluminum rack
Hope this helps!

Re: Rack and Pinion
Thanks for finding some alternatives. I had already found one from BRT Racing Products but will probably cancel the order and buy a Stiletto. I appreciate your help on this.

Re: Rack and Pinion
The stiletto looks pretty slick. It appears to be beefy, light, and protected from the elements.
I'll have to look into it a bit more.
