Cool New Three-wheelers (and other things of that nature)
I figure that we need a place we can post links and comments about some of the latest developments in the three-wheeling community, so post away!

VOLKWAGEN GX3!!!
Okay, since I put this thing up first, I will start it off with this:
HOW COOL IS THE VOLKSWAGEN GX3????? I WANT ONE!
What do I do to get one? I mean, yeah, I might be able to build something like it, but for $17K I wouldn't mind the fact that someone else built my toy for me!

I have to admit, that's pretty cool.
However, I think 17K is a bit high for me. I'd rather build my own for that price.

Re: Cool New Three-wheelers (and other things of that nature)
There was quite a stir over the GX3 on the VWVortex forums. http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2382582
Alas, it was too good to be true and VW, citing liability concerns, has canned it.

Re: Cool New Three-wheelers (and other things of that nature)
I thought I would post a couple of favorite links of mine.
http://www.mride.se - Interesting Swedish trike build.
NOTE REVERSE MECHANISM and TURBO!
http://www.sub3wheeler.com - Beautiful build, neat compact layout.
http://dpcars.aprsworld.com/ - Click on "DP1". Not a trike but a fantastic, well documented build of a "home built" Hayabusa powered/ALL WHEEL DRIVE track car. HUGE amount of information and a fun read. Note the "Design" archives. Oh to combine the AWD of this with the layout of the SUB3wheeler noted above! Three wheel drive....THAT would be cool!
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/646433/5 - An interesting home built with an emphasis on safety.
http://unitas.lunarpages.com/~norton2/shrike.htm - another interesting home built. Note the archives and the log book.
http://www.rqriley.com/docs.htm - Finally, the home of the TriMagnum. The best thing here is the document archive. Note especially the article on 3 wheel handling dynamics and also an article on registering your hombuilt vehicle.

Re: Cool New Three-wheelers (and other things of that nature)
All right. Here's another one. Just found it this morning. Apparently it made a stir at SEMA. While similar in concept to a number of things out there, the execution looks nice. Looks a little heavier than their claimed 1300 lbs to me though... http://www.fuelvaporcar.com/index.html

Re: Cool New Three-wheelers (and other things of that nature)
hmmm.. canopy looks similar in style to the one used by Warp Five Engineering.. but after looking at the images and video, I am very impressed. Especially when they lost everything in a fire back in march of 2006 and still made it to the show with a fully functional prototype.
I have to admit that my drawings of the Econopod look very similar to the Ale', but mine is shorter length and narrower track, with what I hope is a better looking rear end (although I have not tested my design in a wind tunnel as of yet).
Nice, again!

Re: Cool New Three-wheelers (and other things of that nature)
I keep wondering if they didn't mean to spell the name of it wrong? They spell it Ale' and tell you it's pronounced "alay".....Hmmm...just like the french word "allez" which means "go". The way it is now, I just think of beer when I see it!

Re: Cool New Three-wheelers (and other things of that nature)
Okay...another new trike. Not really Indy-cycle esque as you ride ON it instead of IN it. But interesting nevertheless. I first saw some spy shots taken on Deal's Gap on some auto blog a number of months ago. The website just went live last night An obnoxiously flash-heavy website but here it is..
